New Versions of Astra Image

We have released a new update for Astra Image. It now has a more advanced statistics window. The decision was made to make a separate statistics window to make the information display clearer and more logical. We also fixed a bug that prevented some grayscale images from being processed with the "Tone" function. Also, as there is every time, we fixed some small problems.

Thanks for reading and please don't hesitate to get in touch.

All the best,

Stuart

New Versions of Astra Image

This is a minor update to add a few new featues and make the UI look more consistent. We have added some different methods to convert from color to black-and-white and we are very happy with the new Smart Decolor function. It will convert from color to black-and-white while preserving contrast. It can make a really big difference when converting some images! There are now two other methods for gray scale conversion too. In the Windows app version of Astra Image, we have been through the dialogs to give them a more consistent look and feel. We hope you like it!

Thanks,

Stuart

New Versions of Astra Image

It has been a while, but the new versions of Astra Image are ready! This new version adds camera shake removal (aka blind deconvolution), focus blur removal, as well as a host of optimisations. The camera shake removal function has a lot of options, so please play with it and get a feel for what it can do. Doing blind deconvolution is difficult, and it has taken us a long time to make a robust algorithm. We hope you like it as well as all the other new and improved functions in Astra Image. As always, please feel free to let us know your thoughts.

All the best,

Stuart

  • Super Contrast function - set the shadow, midtone, highlight contrast separately and also adjust the texture sharpness and edge sharpness at the same time.

  • Improved tone mapping.
  • Shadows and Highlights adjustment.
  • Halo suppression on many sharpening functions.
  • Improved Multiscale Contrast with the ability to adjust the shadow, midtone and highlight contrast separately.
  • A lot more...

New Sliders

New Sliders

Regarding the new sliders, you can drag them with the mouse to set the value just as you would with any other slider. But you can also double-click on a slider to reset it to the default value.

Other Information

We also changed the color scheme of the application to black and dark gray. We hope this lets you focus more easily on your image.

At the moment, many of the functions use a preview window. However, we are working on removing the preview windows and showing a real-time preview on the image itself. Stay tuned for that one!

As always, your feedback is most welcome. We really hope you like the latest version of Astra Image. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and provided feedback. We really appreciate it!

Announcements

Multithreading

We just wanted to let you know that many of the core functions in Astra Image are now multithreaded.

Multithreading is really hard for programmers to get right, but we think that we have squashed most of the bugs. We also tweaked and optimised some other supporting functions. The result is that you can now see some very significant speed improvements, especially in the deconvolution routines. In our testing, we have seen functions complete up to 10 time faster than before. We hope that you will benefit from these changes and enjoy using Astra Image even more.

Welcome.

Welcome to the new Astra Image home page!

It takes a long time to come up with a good web page design. You have to take into consideration things like SEO and mobile devices with a wide variety of screen sizes, as well as all the different browsers that are currently in use and the quirks and bugs of each (and of each version sometimes too). Where does a small company begin?

Why We Chose Bootstrap

Rather than re-invent the wheel, it makes a lot of sense to use a pre-built framework for a new website design. There are many good frameworks out there, and we chose to use the Bootstrap framework for this website. Why? Because it is well-documented, easy to customise and it has a lot of pre-built components. It was a good fit for our needs. If you are working on a homepage, you can check out Bootstrap at www.getbootstrap.com

Note that word "well documented." There are a lot of frameworks, but many of them seem to require a kind of telepathy with the developer in order to get to know how to use them. Good documentation with examples is really important for any kind of website or software development, and this is one really positive aspect of Bootstrap. The help docs are logical, easy to navigate and there are examples for everything. So, it was a pretty easy decision for us to go with bootstrap as the foundation of this site.

What do you think? If you have any comments or thoughts about Bootstrap, this homepage, or Astra Image in general, send us an e-mail.
